The 92nd season
Dear Audience,
We are delighted to announce that in just a few days, the 92nd season of the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre will commence. This season, we will showcase beloved performances, welcome the world-renowned opera star Maria Guleghina (Meytarjyan), and present a grand premiere dedicated to the 155th anniversary of Komitas.
The new season of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre will open with the magnificent ballets of Aram Khachaturian: Masquerade on August 29 and Gayane on August 31.
On September 4, the stage will feature the symbol of freedom of the musical world – the ballet Spartacus, one of Aram Khachaturian’s masterpieces. This work embodies the composer’s most outstanding creative features: captivating and memorable imagery, vibrant scenes, and melodiousness, where European classical music blends with oriental intonations.
Giuseppe Verdi's opera La Traviata tells the story of love, illness, and the fate of a promiscuous woman, a story that has touched the hearts of audiences for more than a century and a half. You can enjoy this masterpiece at the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre on September 5th. The following day, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake will grace the stage.
On September 7, the incomparable world star Maria Guleghina(Meytarjyan) (soprano) will take the stage at the Armenian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, performing the role of Princess Turandot in Giacomo Puccini's opera. A few days later, on September 11, we will once again have the privilege of experiencing the finest selections of world music at the gala concert dedicated to the birthday anniversary of the esteemed Maria Guleghina Meitardjian.
Another masterpiece by Giacomo Puccini, the opera MadamaButterfly, will transport viewers into a world of sincere and devoted love, intense passion, and profound sacrifice on September 12.
"In my musical family, there is a mischievous and boisterous child: the 'Sabre Dance' from the ballet Gayane. If I had known it would gain such popularity and overshadow my other works, I would never have written it," Aram Khachaturian said about his famous piece, which inadvertently became his global "calling card." The ballet Gayane will be performed on the theater stage on September 13.
On September 14 and 18, opera lovers will have the chance to enjoy Georges Bizet's Carmen and Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème. On September 19, the musical Toulouse-Lautrec, staged in honor of the 100th anniversary of the great chansonnier Charles Aznavour's birth, will be performed.
On September 26 and 27, the season's premiere, the ballet Antouni, representing the culmination of the creative collaboration between Edgar Hovhannisyan and Maxim Martirosyan, will be staged in honor of the 155th anniversary of Komitas Vardapet.
On September 28, we will present the beloved children's play MookOpera to our young audience. Later that evening, Armen Tigranyan's legendary Anoush will captivate with its renowned story by Tumanyan.
We eagerly await your presence with love.
LABYRINTH
While the term often conjures images of the monstrous Minotaur or the intricate, inescapable corridors of ancient Egyptian temples, a labyrinth can also serve as a journey of transformation. In the opera LABYRINTH, this concept is reimagined: rather than a place of entrapment, the labyrinth becomes a space for the reconstruction of consciousness. This unique work, both in its dramaturgy and composition, is a “pastiche” that guides its characters—and the audience—through a profound exploration of the mind.
An original production in the operatic genre, this entirely new work of postmodernist theater brings together the music of Bach, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Offenbach, Gounod, Bizet, Cilea, Charpentier, Saint-Saëns, Verdi, Kalman, Jenkins, and many other composers, thanks to a completely new libretto.
