Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan invites young professional conductors to participate in an exclusive conducting masterclass. The masterclasses will be led by renowned conductor and professor at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, Alexander Polishchuk.

The program includes a three-week masterclass aimed at refining and developing professional conducting skills. The training will focus on fundamental conducting techniques and expressive methods, incorporating modern solutions and best international practices.

During the first week, only conductors residing in Armenia will have the opportunity to participate. The Opera Theatre will cover the costs of the selected participants. At the end of the masterclass, some participants will be selected for further collaboration with the Opera Theatre’s orchestra.

During the second and third weeks, the Opera Theatre welcomes conductors from all over the world to join Maestro Polishchuk’s masterclasses.

Week 1 (24.01.2025 - 29.01.2025)

Week 2 (31.01.2025 – 05.02.2025)

  • Beethoven – Symphony No. 5

  • Debussy – "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune"
  • Verdi – Sinfonia "La forza del destino"

Week 3 (07.02.2025 – 12.02.2025)

  • Stravinsky – The Rite of Spring
  • Mozart – Symphony No. 38 KV504 “Prague”

  • A video recording of the applicant conducting an orchestra (maximum 15 minutes)
  • A repertoire list of previously conducted performances

Alexander Polishchuk studied in Saint Petersburg under the mentorship of the renowned conductor and professor Ilya Musin. Since 1993, he has conducted masterclasses at the Royal Academy in Stockholm, as well as in Finland, Scotland, Singapore, Portugal, China, Sweden, Austria, Russia, and the USA. His students include notable maestros such as Tugan Sokhiev, Darrell Ang, Kah Chun Wong, and Mikhail Tatarnikov.

On June 14, the grand premiere of Giacomo Puccini’s "La Bohème" took place on the stage of the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan, presented in the traditions of Italian opera.
