Vilen Galstyan



Born on February 12, 1941 in Yerevan. In 1958 graduated from Yerevan State Choreographic College. In 1959-1960 was a solo dancer at Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet theatre after Paliashvili. In 1960 worked at A. SpendiarianOpera and Ballet National Academic Theatre. In 1969 was appointed ballet master at the Opera Theatre. From 1974 to 1978 – studied Lunacharsky’s Ballet-master institute of Moscow, class of professor Zakharov.

From 1997 to 1999 – was a professor at Seoul National University.

Since 2000 has been the head of ballet-master department at Yerevan State Institute of Theatre.


He has directed “Gayane”, “David of Sassoun”, “Snow Queen”, “Othello”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Tristan and Isolde”, as well as ballet scenes of “Aida”, “Anoush”, “Poliuto”, “Almast”. Has staged many performances worldwide.


From 1979 to 1988with Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre he has toured the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Japan.

In 2001 – directed the “Argentina” ballet group in Argentina.
